Posted on Thursday, April 8th, 2021

On the 15th April, the Domestic Abuse Bill will be going back to the House of Commons after its passage through the Lords. MPs will be voting on amendments put forward by End Violence Against Women Coalition, Southall Black Sisters and the Latin American Women Rights Service to ensure protections for Migrant women.

Now is the time to act and ask MPs to vote in support of the following amendments:

  • The establishment of safe reporting mechanisms, so victims can report domestic abuse safely without the fear of immigration control (40);
  • The extension of eligibility for already existing provisions to protect migrant women, through the Domestic Violence Rule (DV Rule) and the Destitution Domestic Violence Concession (DDVC) (41);
  • Ensuring effective protection and support to all victims of domestic abuse by incorporating a non-discrimination clause in line with Article 4(3) of the Istanbul Convention (43)

Please write to your MP using this template asking them to support the amendments.

Meet with your MPs and raise these concerns in person.
