René Cassin and the Tibetan Jewish Youth Exchange (TJYE) invite you to attend our human rights in Tibet evening with expert panellists: Yael Weisz-Rind, Chonpel Tsering and Ivan Costantino

In 1950, Tibet’s culture, history, and identity changed dramatically following the Chinese invasion and occupation. Since then, Tibetans in Tibet do not enjoy the basic human rights provided for in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Additionally, their political and spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, lives in exile. Although the Dalai Lama is invited and welcomed by international governments to visit and speak publicly in their countries, these governments mostly do not recognise Tibet as a sovereign state or as part of the People’s Republic of China.

The panel will discuss the issues surrounding the state of affairs in Tibet: the human rights situation, the Dalai Lama’s favoured policy, the current strategy, the challenges of preserving Tibetan identity, and how we, in the UK, can help the situation in Tibet.

The speakers are Yael Weisz-Rind (the former head of Free Tibet), Chonpel Tsering (from the Office of Tibet in London), and Ivan Constantino (a contemporary Tibet scholar).
