Human Trafficking Foundation

The Human Trafficking Foundation (HTF) is a UK-based charity which grew out of the work of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Human Trafficking. HTF was created in order to support and add value to the work of the many charities and agencies operating to combat human trafficking in the UK.

HTF's vision is of a UK:

  • which presents a hostile environment for human traffickers
  • where there is widespread public awareness of the evils and existence of trafficking
  • where there is tangible and accessible support for trafficking victims
  • where traffickers are swiftly and effectively brought to justice.

Anti-Slavery International

René Cassin and Anti-Slavery International (ASI) are working together to raise awareness of contemporary slavery in the Jewish community, and to raise funds for our work to eradicate slavery.

René Cassin is a human rights charitable organisation that uses historical Jewish experience and positive Jewish values to campaign and educate on universal human rights issues.

The organisation is named in honour of René Cassin, one of the principal co-drafters of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

alt

Anti-Slavery International is the world’s oldest international human rights organisation.

Having led on the historical abolition of the transatlantic slave trade, it works today to end all forms of slavery at local, national and international levels.

ASI identifies slavery abuses and raises awareness of them.

ASI also stops these abuses from continuing and helps former slaves not to slip back into slavery, as well as preventing new abuses from taking place in the future.

ASI works with international partners on joint projects to end slavery.

René Cassin has recently launched a campaign to end slavery and is working on raising awareness of the existence of modern slavery in the UK, Europe and Israel.  We are seeking meaningful reform to existing laws and are working  to change attitudes that perpetuate slavery.  We are currently conducting research and gathering evidence on slavery in Israel.

We are seeking members of the Jewish community to collaborate with René Cassin and Anti-Slavery International in this work.

The Clemens Nathan Research Centre

The Clemens Nathan Research Centre, an organisation dedicated to the promotion of international human rights, is the research arm of the Consultative Council of Jewish Organisations, a human rights NGO with consultative status at the United Nations, founded in 1946 by the Nobel Prize Laureate René Cassin. Its constituent organisations are the Anglo-Jewish Association and the Alliance israélite universelle. It is named after Clemens Nathan who is also its first chairman. Alan Stephens  is director of research.

The activities of both organisations have included holding lectures and conferences, and sponsoring books on human rights.

Since its establishment in 2004, the CNRC has initiated a number of innovative programmes, including a long-term research project, in collaboration with the International Bar Association and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, Lund University, Sweden, to formulate rules of conduct for human rights fact-finding missions. Since February 2005, the CNRC has organised five very successful conferences - in Lund, on Fact-Finding, and in London, on Religion and Human Rights (with the Commonwealth Institute, University of London), on Terrorism and Human Rights, on Foreign Policy and Human Rights, and on the Freedom of the Media and Human Rights, the last three having been held at the premises of the International Institute of Strategic Studies, Arundel House. Keynote speakers at the London conferences were Richard Harries, the Bishop of Oxford; Lord Guthrie, former Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom; Sir Jeremy Greenstock, former UK Ambassador to the United Nations, and Andrew Puddephat, Director of Global Partners and Associates. The Centre's forthcoming events include a conference on Health and Human Rights.

All CNRC conferences generate edited publications, in book form, the first being, "Does God believe in Human Rights?" (Martinus Nijhoff Publishers, Leiden, 2007, ISBN 9004152547).

The CNRC also organizes periodic René Cassin Memorial Lectures, recent lecturers having included Professor Bertrand Ramcharan, former acting UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (lecture held at Chatham House, London) and M. Robert Badinter, former Minister of Justice of France (lecture held at the Law Society, London).

Fundamental Rights Platform

What is the Fundamental Rights Agency

Th e European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) is an advisory body of the European Union. It was set up in March 2007 and is based in Vienna, Austria. Th e FRA helps to ensure that the fundamental rights of people living in the EU are protected. It does this by collecting evidence about the situation of fundamental rights across the European Union and providing advice, based on the evidence, about how to improve the situation. Th e FRA also informs people about their fundamental rights. In doing so, it helps to make fundamental rights a reality for everyone in the European Union.

What is the Fundamental Rights Platform?

The Agency's Fundamental Rights Platform brings together many of the key civil society organizations working on human rights issues and provides the Agency with a greater sense of what is happening on the ground and how the Agency's work can make human rights promotion and protection more visible and effective.

What are fundamental rights?

Fundamental rights, or human rights, express values that receive the highest level of legal protection and guarantee a certain level of freedom and treatment for everyone.

When the European Union passes legislation or issues decisions, it must ensure that it does not contradict these standards. The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union is the European Union’s commitment to the basic rights and freedoms of all people living in the European Union.
