Team Biographies
Alexander Goldberg, International Trustee and Advisor
Alexander Goldberg is the Chief Executive of the London Jewish Forum. Alex also works for as a consultant to an international humanitarian organisation in Paris. He was called to the Bar in 2001 and was formerly the Community Issues Director at the Board of Deputies of British Jews and Senior Policy Officer on Race Relations at the CRE.
Andrew Baum, Campaigns
Andrew Baum is a solicitor at the Financial Services Authority where he works in the Enforcement and Financial Crime Division having previously worked in two City law firms in medical law.
Daniel Kingsley, Strategy Committee
Daniel Kingsley qualified as a barrister in 1994. He specialises in the public law aspects of housing and family law, and has a particular interest in the impact of human rights law in these areas. He has lectured on the impact of the Human Rights Act 1998 on English Law, and has attended the UN Human Rights Bodies and other international forums on behalf of CCJO and RenéCassin.
Daniel Reisel, Trustee and member of Projects Committee
Daniel is a graduate medical student at UCL. He has a BA in Theology and Religious Studies from Cambridge University and a PhD in Neuroscience from Oxford University. He has been involved in numerous Jewish educational organisations and is passionate about making Jewish learning relevant to the current issues we face today. He has served as Programming Chair for Limmud Conference and LimmudFest and is part of the adjunct faculty of the London School of Jewish Studies.
Laura Forster, member of Strategy Committee
Laura is a solicitor at the Home Office, where she advises on immigration law. She has had a diverse legal career, previously working on sports and heritage issues at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and, as a financing lawyer, at Slaughter and May. She joined RenéCassin in 2007.
Lisa Barnett
Lisa is a Philosophy graduate from Warwick University. She is interested in prisoners' rights, gender equality, disability and mental health, and asylum seekers and refugees. She has been volunteering at JAMI (Jewish mental health charity) for over three years and is also volunteering as a briefriender as part of JCC's Darfari Women Befreinding programme.
Lisa hopes to train as a psychodynamic psychotherapist at the Refugee Therapy Centre to work with asylum seekers, refugees, and women in the prison.
Maya Jaffe, Co-Chair and member of Executive Committee
Maya Jaffe works in international development with Crown Agents on public sector supply chain management, particularly in the health sector. She has previously worked with the World Health Organisation and the US Agency for International Development. Her expertise includes policy analysis, financial/project management and marketing.
Philip Cohen, Campaigns
Philip Cohen works in General Counsel’s Department at the Financial Ombudsman Service, where he specialises in public law litigation. Most recently, he assisted in all aspects of the defence of the Ombudsman in the high-profile case of BBA v FSA and FOS [2011], which concerned alleged retrospective application of principles to the payment protection insurance industry.
Rebecca Herman, Events
Rebecca Herman started learning the cello at the age of 13. Within a year she won the Marguerite Swan Memorial Prize, an Associated Board Gold Bursary and a place to further her musical education at Chetham's School of Music (Manchester, UK). Subsequent awards include the Ida Scholarship and Bursary, the Mozart Scholarship, scholarships to RAM, GSMD, RNCM and the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY), where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree with Steven Doane.
