CCJO

Renecassin is an independent group affiliated to the Consultative Council of Jewish Organisations (CCJO), which was established in 1946 in the wake of the Holocaust and Second World War by its founding President, René Cassin.

The CCJO, supported by offices and partners in Canada, France, Italy, UK and elsewhere, is an umbrella organisation for the international human rights activities of the Alliance Israélite Universelle (AIU), Anglo-Jewish Association (AJA) and American Jewish Committee (AJC).

The CCJO has consultative status at the United Nations and other international organisations, focusing on the creation and strengthening of the human rights programs of the UN. While other Jewish organisations have established separate representations at the UN, the CCJO nevertheless remains the only Jewish body at the UN solely devoted to work for the human rights of all peoples.

The CCJO has always supported the activities of Renecassin at the UN Human Rights Council and the former Commission on Human Rights;for instance, backing the Convention for the Suppression of Contemporary Forms of Slavery. It has subsequently continued to be an active member of the international NGO coalitions behind such developments as theInternational Convention against Torture and the Statute of the International Criminal Court.
